Brickson Privacy Policy
Effective October 30, 2026
The short version: Brickson stores what you put in it on your own iPhone or iPad and never sends it to us, so we cannot see, sell or share your phrases, your voice or anything you type. Copies leave your device only in the ways described below, such as backups you make and emails you send us. Brickson has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
Who we are
Brickson is a communication app made by Avery Dedmon. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Avery Dedmon. You can reach us at ajdedmon12@gmail.com.
What stays on your device
Brickson saves these things on your device, in storage that only Brickson can open:
- The phrases and categories you use, add or change.
- The message you are typing, so it is still there if the app closes. It stays until you clear it.
- Your settings, such as the voice and speaking speed you chose.
iOS keeps other apps out of this storage, and encrypts it when your device has a passcode. It stays until you delete it in the app or delete the app. Deleting the app removes all of it from the device.
Speech and your Personal Voice
When you choose a phrase, Brickson hands the words to the speech system built into iOS, and your device speaks them. Apple makes that speech on your device, not on a server. Brickson does not record what it says, and it does not send your words anywhere.
Personal Voice is an Apple feature, not part of Brickson. You create it in the Settings app, and Apple keeps it encrypted on your device. If you turn on Share Across Devices, Apple also keeps an end-to-end encrypted copy in iCloud. Brickson can speak in your Personal Voice only if you allow it. When you do:
- Brickson gives iOS the words, and iOS says them in your voice.
- Brickson never receives the recordings you made to create your Personal Voice, or the voice itself. Apple says apps can't capture speech made with a Personal Voice.
- You can stop Brickson using your Personal Voice any time in Settings > Accessibility > Personal Voice. Turning off access does not delete your voice.
Your Personal Voice is kept by iOS, not by Brickson, so deleting Brickson leaves it in place. Apple explains how it protects Personal Voice in Create a Personal Voice.
How you control the app
If you use Apple's accessibility features, such as Eye Tracking, Switch Control or Voice Control, iOS runs them. Brickson never receives camera images, eye-tracking data or anything else they use; it learns which button you chose. While Family Setup asks how the screen is reached, Brickson also reads whether VoiceOver or Switch Control is turned on, only to suggest an answer. That stays on your device, and Brickson does not save it.
When you type a message, Brickson receives the words that reach it, whether you type them on the keyboard or say them with Apple's dictation, and keeps them only as this policy describes. Apple's keyboard and dictation are part of iOS, and Apple handles them under its own privacy policy.
Backups
Backups you export. If you export a backup, Brickson makes a file with your categories and phrases. You choose where it goes: the Files app, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, email or another app. From then on the file is yours, and wherever you saved it looks after it under its own rules. The file is not encrypted, so anyone who has it can read your phrases. Keep it somewhere private, and delete copies you no longer need.
Your device's own backups. If iCloud Backup is on, your Brickson data is included in your iCloud backup. Apple encrypts it, but Apple holds the keys unless you turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud. To take Brickson out of your iCloud backup, open Settings, tap your name, go to iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Backups, and turn off Brickson. A backup to a computer is encrypted only if you choose Encrypt local backup. Apple or your computer handles these backups, not us.
What Brickson never collects
- No account, and no name, email address or phone number.
- No location, contacts, photos, health records or camera images.
- No advertising, analytics, or tracking across other apps and websites. Because nothing tracks you, browser Do Not Track settings have nothing to change.
- No code from other companies that could collect data.
- We never sell personal information or share it for advertising. We receive it only in the cases described below, such as when you email us.
What Apple shares with us
Apple runs the App Store, and under its own privacy policy it may share limited information with us:
- Crash reports and usage statistics, only if you turned on Share With App Developers in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. Crash reports describe what went wrong in the app, when it happened, and your device model and iOS version. Brickson is built to keep your phrases out of them. We use them only to fix problems.
- Totals such as downloads and ratings, which do not identify you.
- Test versions. If you test Brickson through Apple's TestFlight, Apple shares some details with us: your name and email address (if we invited you by email, or if you add your email to feedback), your device, how often you use the test version, crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you send. Screenshots show your phrases. We use these only to improve Brickson and never share them. We delete feedback and screenshots within one year, and remove your name and email address when you leave the test. Apple keeps its own copy of feedback for one year.
If you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if your email shows it, what you write and anything you attach, such as a screenshot or backup file. We use it only to answer you and to fix problems. Our email provider stores it for us; we share it with no one else unless the law requires it. Please don't include medical details. If we need any to help, we will ask. We delete support emails within one year after the conversation ends, or sooner if you ask.
We use your emails, and the test details Apple shares with us, to answer you and to fix Brickson. That is our legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it, delete it, or limit how we use it.
You can also object at any time to our using it, and we will stop.
If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, tell us at ajdedmon12@gmail.com. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Brickson is not directed to children under 13, and it collects nothing from anyone, including children. If we learn that a child under 13 has emailed us, we reply once and then delete the email.
Your choices
- Every optional feature above, such as Personal Voice and backups, can stay off; the phrase board works without them.
- Delete a phrase or category in Brickson, and it is gone from the app.
- Delete Brickson to remove what it stored on this device. Copies elsewhere, such as backups, stay until you delete them there.
- Delete any backup files you exported, wherever you saved them.
- Change any permission in the Settings app at any time.
Emergencies
Emergency phrases and Get Attention make sound on your device. They never call emergency services or send anyone a message.

Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date. When a change comes with an app update, that update's notes will say so. If a future version would send anything you put in Brickson to us or to another company, Brickson will tell you in the app and ask you first.
